Semiconductor switches and semiconductor actuators

Our semiconductor switches and actuators (often also called thyristor switches / actuators) were designed for switching large electrical loads.

One application is induction melting systems that are operated via a transformer directly on the mains in a so-called Steinmetz circuit. By using semiconductor switches, the wear on the contactor contacts can be reduced to a minimum, since the semiconductor switches take over the switching processes and the original contactors are only switched when there is no load. Switch-on processes only take place at the respective tension zero point, so that the capacitors of the induction system are no longer burdened by the excessively high current surges at any switch-on time.

They are suitable for the operation of:

  • Consumers with ohmic properties (e.g. resistance heating)
  • Consumers with inductive behavior (e.g. choke coils)
  • Consumers with capacitive behavior (e.g. compensation systems, capacitors)
  • Consumers with mixing behavior (e.g. induction furnaces)
  • Induction systems in "Steinmetz" wiring (mains frequency induction systems)

Our semiconductor switches are compatible with corresponding contactors, since they can be controlled in pure switching operation via a 230V AC signal (e.g. existing contactor coil control).

In contrast to contactors, which switch on at any time (e.g. also at maximum voltage), our semiconductor switches synchronize the process with the feeding network, so that the switch-on load for the components involved is as low as possible.

The semiconductor controllers regulate the power consumption of the connected consumers in a vibration package or phase control.

A specialty from our company is the latest generation of semiconductor actuators, which draws a sinusoidal current from the network regardless of the power. The power is controlled via the current amplitude. In contrast to conventional actuators, this unit behaves neutrally on the network, comparable to an ohmic load.

All semiconductor switch / actuator settings are made at the factory so that they are ready for use immediately after installation. The synchronization voltage required for the electronics is tapped internally.
